CO2 Separation System

Furnace Engineering is proud to announce that final stages of internal testing are under way in our factory for our CO2 separation Research system.

The project has been awarded to Furnace Engineering by one of the Major Australian research organization in the field of carbon dioxide separation and storage.

The separation Rig is a complex system, designed to study the performance of both PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) and different membrane designs.

By mixing gas from different sources, at different pressures on a continuous basis, the skid is capable to replicate a wide range of gas compositions and process variables in order to replicate different field conditions.

This allows the research organization to collect valuable data on long test runs and change the critical parameters to simulate on a pilot scale the conditions that may be present on production scale.

The system is composed by multiple sections: pre-treatment, CNG injection, H2S injection, membrane, PSA and thermal oxidiser.

The gas is flowing through these sections and the mass flow, gas composition, temperature and pressure is measured at different stages.

The flowing gas is then safely disposed using a thermal oxidiser. The skid is controlled by a PLC and interfaced with an existing DCS for remote monitoring and control.

Multiple challenges have been presented to Furnace Engineering during this project, such as  material selection for high H2S concentration, process flexibility and custom made components to accommodate the demanding requirements in terms of pressure and accuracy of measurement on a small scale.
